Running my own business and launching products may seem easy to all of you, but to be honest it takes a lot of work. The big thing I had to tackle when my hubby and I first started this journey was how to properly market my various products and reach the right people.

Through the past few years we have learned, by trial and error, what works and what doesn’t. Although everything we do is fitness focused, what we have learned about marketing can be applied to anything you may want to do with your own business.

Marketing is partially getting your name or product out into the world, and it also takes some smart networking. If you find the right balance of both you will quickly begin to achieve the goals you want.

I have complied ten simple marketing techniques that are guaranteed to work for you and your business. Some of these we use ourselves, others are just really good ideas to help you get your name and product (or service) noticed.

Ten simple marketing tools you need to implement:

  • Give your stuff away – I know this seems ridiculous, but if you have a product that fills a need and can’t get any headway into the world. Try giving your product away to friends, family and acquaintances. When you do this have the people around you make the agreement that they will tell others about your product or service. Word of mouth is one of the greatest forms of promotion for your business.
  • Attend networking events – This is one of the best ways to meet other people within your industry. Remember regardless of what your business or product is you need to get your face out there and build your brand! By meeting other people who work in the same area that you do, you not only get a good idea of what your competition has to offer but you also will make valuable allies that you can always contact for advice.
  • Or create your own event – If you don’t like the networking events you’ve gone to why not create your own? Not only will you have the ability to invite those people you want to meet and speak with, but it also shows everyone out there that you are serious about your business and a natural leader.
  • Start a podcast – This is a simple and easy way to not only get your product or service out to the world, but you can also invite guests to speak about the industry you both work in. Everyone loves to tell their story, by having them on your own show you have the ability to ask every question you want to know and in return your guest gets to promote their product or service.
  • Be helpful – As you begin to network with others in your industry you will begin to realize you have skills that others don’t and vice versa. By helping people with your strengths, you will be able to get help from them in the areas you are weak.
  • Send a weekly email – Your customers and clients are always interested in what you are doing and where you are going. By being in constant contact with them you develop a strong relationship with your clients and can keep them informed with every new goal your business achieves.
  • Support a cause – By finding a cause and creating your own event for both present and potential clients to attend not only do you get your name out there, you also show the community and your clients that you care.
  • Sponsor an organization – Many local organizations are not that expensive to sponsor for a year if you consider the so-called per meeting cost. If your product or service is a good fit with their audience, you will get exposure every time the organization sends out an e-mail and a mention every time they meet. Attendees always remember and appreciate companies who sponsor their favorite organizations.
  • Create a cool giveaway – When thinking through what your company will give away make sure it’s something they won’t want to throw away or lose in their desk or purse, like a pen or keychain.

These are the ten simple marketing tools that will work to make your business or product successful. Joe and I have used a few of these, and our business and various products have soared. So if you’re starting a business keep these ten simple marketing tools in mind. If you try even two or three of these you will quickly find that you’re on your way to success!
